Why do I get a sharp pain over my left eye when descending in a plane? ?

So I was flying to LA and when the pilot started to descend I got this really bad sharp pain over my left eye in the forhead area. It felt like I had split my head open. Like there was a lot of pressure in that area.
I have not been having sinus problems or allergies before this.

What can I do to prevent it because I am going in the military and want to be jumping out of planes one day?
