Why is it bad to sleep on your right side while pregnant?

I read that around 16 weeks your supposed to start sleeping on your left side only. Why is that?
I am 27 weeks and I try to stay on my left side, but I am so used to sleeping on my right side, that I wake up on my right side. And I have tried everything but I somehow end up turning in my sleep without realizing it.
Could this harm the baby in anyway?

Thank you!

its not that its bad. it will not harm the baby, but doc want you on your left side becasue thats where your heart is…and laying on that side will increase blood flow.

Your body will not let you sleep in a position that will harm the child. Your body will naturally respond if its in the wrong spot. My doctor has been telling me this as well as my pregnancy books. I’ve been worried because I am a belly sleeper but they told me to just sleep how I am comfortable. I’ve read that you get good blood flow on your left side but you can sleep how ever you feel comfortable.

It’s not bad. It’s just that blood flow is best on your left side but it won’t hurt your baby to sleep on your right. They do have those pillows that wrap around you if you want something to help you stay on one side, but it’s really not necessary. Good luck!

I slept any which way I couldl get comfortable.
I have heard this , but my doctor never said anything about it. I beleive that it has something to do with how much harder your heart has to pump. Anyway I think it is an old superstisious wivestale.

It won’t harm your baby! The doctor just doesn’t want you to sleep on your back or on your stomach! The left or right side is okay.

maybe more organs on your right side, so for your general body functioning, plus baby weight. Don;t really know though. Generally suggest one side for better digestion. Then determine liver, spleen, on right side.

It isn’t harmful to sleep on your right side, it is just more beneficial to sleep on your left as it is better for blood flow to your uterus.

That book or magazine you are reading is rubbish. I dun see how thats gonna affect your baby. Suggestion: Dump the book/magazine away.

my partners 30 weeks and she says that if you sleep on your left side it gives the baby the best chance to go into the right position for birth. the best position is towards the left, head down and chin tucked in with the baby’s spine towards your belly (anterior). its not bad to sleep on your right but on the left will help with position more. hope this helps :)

No its not a bad thing if you sleep on your right.
When your on your left side though it allows your blood to flow better to the baby or something and or your heart.I cant remember exactally but its not important that you stay on the left.

NO either side is fine, but left side is better because of blood flow. Try not to sleep direclty on belly or back.
